{Essentials - Jeans}

Some people think that jeans do not belong in a Muslimah's wardrobe. I think that if you find the right fit, they can be just as modest as any other pant.

{Buying Guide}

1. Look for jeans that are looser on the legs and create a straight line from your hip, to your foot. Avoid jeans labeled as "skinny", "slim" or "cigarette".

2. When in doubt, go dark. Darker jeans are the most versatile because they can be dressy or casual. Whichever shade you choose, make sure that the jean is one uniform color.

3. Buy your jeans an inch or 2 or 3 longer than normal if you plan to wear them with higher heels. (High-water jeans are so odd!)

4. Always try on jeans before you buy them because tags can be misleading. If you buy online, make sure there a pictures so that you can see what they look like on the body.

{The Right Cut}

1. Slim or Skinny leg Jeans: Not so modest - even with a long top.

2. Bootcut Jeans: Usually very tight above the knee with a little flare below. Try them on, but you'll most likely pass on this style.

3. Flare-leg Jeans: Like bootcut jeans only wider at the bottom. Avoid extremely flared jeans which can be silly looking.

4. Trouser Jeans - Nice, modest fit. These are called "trousers" because they are cut like a regular pant and they do not feature the 5 pocket styling and overlapping side seams that you'll find on most jeans.

5. Wide Leg Jeans - Great fit. These jeans do not emphasize your curves. But again, labels can be misleading so try them on.
